The Long Black Story

Heather and I both have a passion for life in general, but specifically for love, art, music, animals and nature. Now that our children are grown we are able to explore these passions more deeply and have found, so far, that she is an excellent painter and makes magic with mixed media and I seem to have a good eye and strong imagination for creating sculpture from scrap. This started in January of 2025 in New Orleans, where we went in hopes of her getting this job. Of course she did and we lived there for 4 months. It was incredible. We were both inspired by the city and the galleries there and that's where I first started to weld. I worked on that while she was an on call hospice nurse. By the time we left there we had an enclosed trailer that I could use as a workshop, Heather had taken lessons from a local artist and we were both ecstatic about the future. Our next 3 month gig was Tulsa, OK and we met so many artist friends and found so many outlets and sources for advice and materials. I sold my first artistic piece for $100! Heather's spark was lit on Route 66. She continues to learn and refine her skills and explore new mediums and crafts. Along our journeys I developed a love for spreading light by turning liquor bottles or vases or really anything into a lamp. I love finding the perfect shade for the perfect lamp at a thrift shop or garage sale. For now we live the life of the blessed. We love being on this Long Black Journey together and we genuinely hope you get some feeling of joy, inspiration, love, acceptance, community, peace, respect, awe, calm, or general positivity from any or all of our creations!
